Promises to Keep by Genevieve Graham {Book Spotlight}

PROMISES TO KEEP
by Genevieve Graham

An enchanting and poignant story about the unfailing power of love in a world turned upside down by war - from the best-selling author of Tides of Honour.

Summer 1755, Acadia

Young, beautiful Amélie Belliveau lives with her family among the Acadians of Grande Pré, Nova Scotia, content with her life on their idyllic farm. Along with their friends, the neighbouring Mi'kmaq, the community believes they can remain on neutral political ground despite the rising tides of war. But peace can be fragile, and sometimes faith is not enough. When the Acadians refuse to pledge allegiance to the British in their war against the French, the army invades Grande Pré, claims the land, and rips the people from their homes. Amélie's entire family, alongside the other Acadians, is exiled to ports unknown aboard dilapidated ships.

Fortunately, Amélie has made a powerful ally. Having survived his own harrowing experience at the hands of the English, Corporal Connor MacDonnell is a reluctant participant in the British plan to expel the Acadians from their homeland. His sympathy for Amélie gradually evolves into a profound love, and he resolves to help her and her family in any way he can - even if it means treason. As the last warmth of summer fades, more ships arrive to ferry the Acadians away, and Connor is forced to make a decision that will alter the future forever.

Heart-wrenching and captivating, Promises to Keep is a gloriously romantic tale of a young couple forced to risk everything amidst the uncertainties of war.

Roping His Heart by Jaclyn Hardy {Review}

Roping His Heart (A Destined for Love Romance: Mansions) by Jaclyn Hardy
ebook
Published September 26th 2017 by Dragons & Fairy Tales Press

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35495561-roping-his-heart?ac=1&from_search=true

The old mansion down the road from Rachel's ranch has always been her escape. No one has lived there for years, and she dreams of owning it herself someday. So when she finds a handsome city guy walking around inside who claims to own the home, her world turns upside down.

Patrick's career is just taking off in the city, and he couldn't be happier. The news of his father's passing brings a silver lining when he finds that he's left with a large mansion in a small ranching town—the perfect place to expand his business.

But when Patrick meets the beautiful and fiery Rachel at the mansion, he begins to wonder if he made the right choice. Now he must decide if his business is worth going home to, or if he's willing to leave his city life for the woman who has roped his heart.

Part of the Destined for Love Mansions series:
- Kiss Me in the Rain by Lindzee Armstrong
- Roping His Heart by Jaclyn Hardy
- The Princess and The Pizza Man by Cassie Mae
- Mending Faces by Lorin Grace
- Love Me at Sunset by Lucinda Whitney
- Saving Her Plantation by Cami Checketts

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My Review: 4 Stars

Wouldn't it be awesome to discover an old abandoned mansion belongs to your family? That's exactly what happens when Patrick's dad unexpectedly dies and he discovers a deed in his dad's papers. The only problem is, Rachel's been saving up to buy this place for years, since no one has claimed it, and has big dreams for it.

Rachel is spunky and they're both stubborn, but what really struck my heart was the way that Rachel was still willing to help out and share ideas, even when things were going her way at all. She's not one to hold a grudge, which was refreshing. I loved watching these two opposite worlds clash and meld and when the sparks started to simmer, my heart was won over.

I know the focus of the story isn't supposed to be on the mansion, but that part was very fascinating and I would have loved to see more of the renovations. As it was, the slower-paced, wild and free setting of Idaho was a breath of fresh air and the romance was as sweet and tempting as the Fourth of July pies.

Content: mild romance

Happily Ever Afters by Rachel Magee {Blog Tour Review + Giveaway}

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

Happily Ever Afters
Rachel Magee
Contemporary Sweet Romance
ebook, 286 pages
September 19th 2017 by Clean Reads

Lainey Stratton does not fall in love with strangers she meets on vacation. It simply doesn’t make logical sense. So when Lainey meets Carter Thompson on the first day of her Caribbean vacation, she knows it could never amount to anything more than a crush. At the end of the vacation she will return to Dallas and he will return to D.C., and that will be the end of it. Well, unless he wants to join her at a friend’s destination wedding, which would be considered vacation too, right?

But when an unexpected tragedy sends Lainey’s logical world spiraling out of control, she realizes her vacation crush might be the only one who can help her pick up the pieces of her shattered life. That is, as long as she can get out of the way of her own happiness. And as long as Carter’s past doesn’t catch up with him before she gets a chance.

My Review: 4.5 Stars

My heart and soul belongs on the beach and the first quarter of the book takes place in Puerto Rico (I've been there, so it was easy to imagine). Lainey and her two best friends, one of which is her sister, are celebrating her 30th birthday and a chance encounter with Carter leaves everyone involved (reader and Lainey) with a palpitating heart. The chemistry is definitely there, but after this long weekend, how can these two successful people from opposite parts of the country possible make a relationship work?

Carter is an incredible friend and support for Lainey and I fell head-over-heels for him. Lainey is so strong and a character to truly admire. Both of their friend support systems are incredible and all were well-liked by me, especially as this couple tries to navigate a long-distance relationship and deal with incredibly tough heartbreaks.

Can you see the tears on my face? No? Well, trust me--they're there. I knew there was a tragedy in this book, but I was completely unprepared for the punch-in-the-gut feeling that I was left to endure when it happened. I'm not a big crier and I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. Magee is a new-to-me author and I was blown away from the powerful impact of the emotion that I felt throughout, and not just because of the jabs to my heart. The romance was palpable; the friendships were strong; the joys were high and the sorrows were low. This is one author worth watching out for!

Content: mild+ romance (some innuendo, kissing); mild violence.

*I received a copy, which didn't affect my thoughts and opinions in any way.*

About the Author

Rachel Magee wrote her first novel when she was twelve and entered it into a contest for young author/illustrators. Unfortunately, the judges weren’t impressed with her stick figures. So she dropped the dream of becoming a world famous illustrator and stuck to spinning stories. When she’s not busy working on her latest book, she loves to travel with her family and friends. By far, her favorite destination is the beach, which tends to work its way into most of her stories. Between vacations, you can find her at home in The Woodlands, TX with her wonderful husband, their two adventurous kids and a couple of spirited pets, all of whom share Rachel’s love of the ocean. Well, except the cat and dog. They’re both afraid of water. Find out more about what Rachel has been up to at rachelmageebooks.com.

My Heart Belongs on Mackinac Island: Maude's Mooring by Carrie Fancett Pagels {Review}

My Heart Belongs on Mackinac Island: Maude's Mooring by Carrie Fancett Pagels
Paperback, 256 pages
Published July 1st 2017 by Barbour Books

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32927080-my-heart-belongs-on-mackinac-island?from_search=true

Moor your heart on Mackinac Island along with resident sweetheart Maude Welling, an heiress trying to prove her worth by working incognito as a maid at the Grand Hotel. Meet Ben Steffans, a journalist posing as a wealthy industrialist who has come to the island to uncover a story about impoverished men pursuing heiresses at the famed hotel. Will a growing love between Maude and Ben be scuttled when truths are revealed in this Gilded Age romance?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My Review: 4 Stars

From what I've read, this book is a part of a series. I haven't read any of the other stories in the set, so I would say this can stand alone.

Do I dare admit that I hadn't ever heard of Mackinac Island before hearing about this book? I thought maybe it was a fictional place, but have since discovered that it's anything but made up and now, it's taken a place on my bucket list of places to visit. Pagels does a great job of bringing this island to life.

The story starts out with an immediate heartbreak, which bonded me to the island's sweetheart, Maude, from the get-go. A slight mystery blankets the plot, while a growing romance starts to blossom, but it's the characters that truly won me over. The unique situations they each found themselves in and the scrapes they work themselves out of really caught my interest, especially with Maude's younger brother, Jack. I loved the way the relationships were all inner-connected and the way the characters worked through issues to arrive at the ending.

This is a great read for those who enjoy Historical Fiction with a dash of mystery and romance. I felt like I was sitting in the island breeze and savoring a phosphate, and really enjoyed my stay within the pages of this book.

Content: mild romance; mild+ religious elements.

Scottish Highlands, 1700s:

Barely two weeks have passed since Laird Collin MacDonald first darkened Katherine Mercer’s doorstep and married her. Along with the discovery that Collin’s twin Ian would like to see her dead, Katie must now face her own clan, whose chief wants to kill Collin and take her to wife himself. All because Katie possesses the Campbell gift of sight, passed down through centuries of her ancestors.

With little more than faith in her grandfather’s vision and her unique bond with Collin to guide her, Katie steps bravely into an unknown future, where the glimpses afforded her may bring more danger than direction. When the misuse of her gift takes Collin from her side, she is left alone and vulnerable. And it's a wrap! The Tackle your TBR read-a-thon, hosted by Wishful Endings,
is now finished.

MY RECAP:

I wanted to read at least 8 books and barely managed to do that.
I wasn't able to get to all of the books on my list
because I had a couple of books creep up that I couldn't resist.
I didn't visit all of the participants. In fact, I barely visited any of them!
Shame on me.
I wanted to participate in at least 5 challenges and I think I ended up
doing 4, which isn't too bad.

Blue Moon Kisses by Cindy Roland Anderson {Review}

Blue Moon Kisses (Georgia Moon Romance #3)
by Cindy Roland Anderson
332 pages, September 2017

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36230374-blue-moon-kisses?ac=1&from_search=true

At age twelve, Ashlee Nichols fell in love with her brother’s best friend, Beau Jacobsen. Everyone thought she was cute and that her crush was simply that…a crush. But her young heart had known he was the one, and she had planned on marrying him as soon as she was old enough. Unfortunately, when she confessed her feelings to Beau, he’d laughed, patted her on the head and told her he was flattered. Sure, Beau had been twenty-two at the time, but she knew she wouldn't always be a little girl. Just when she turned eighteen and was finally old enough to date him, Beau joined the Army and was deployed to Afghanistan. Now, six years later, Beau is back in Mitchel Creek, Georgia for a few weeks. He’s hotter than ever…and still ten years older, something he can’t seem to get past. He still sees Ashlee as a glorified little sister…or does he?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My Review: 5 Stars

I love Anderson's books so much! From her lovely covers, to her fascinating plots, to her adorable characters, and her fun and exciting romantic moments, I feel like it's Christmas morning whenever I get to read a new story by her.

Ashlee has had an unrequited crush on her older brother's best friend forever. This girl is spunky, sassy, darling, and a magnet for trouble. I love how she's not shy about her feelings, yet she's not a stalker and overbearing. She's larger than life and I love her flirtatious little encounters with Beau. Speaking of Beau, his shy and awkward reactions to Ashlee is purely entertaining and endearing. It's amazing how a big, bad Army guy can bumble so much around this beauty. The chemistry that smolders and simmers with every encounter almost set my Kindle on fire! The situations that arise are comical, yet believable and So. Much. Fun!

Anderson captures the Southern charm and swoon-worthy relationships in a very delightful and fun way. I laugh; I sigh; I swoon. I honestly can't flip the pages fast enough and find myself completely immersed in the book, not wanting it to ever end because it's so darling and romantic. I've loved this series, with each book telling the story of one member of this enthralling family. This is one series that clean romance lovers won't want to miss!

Wish Me Love by Michele Ashman Bell {Blog Tour Review + Giveaway}

Wish Me Love by Michele Ashman Bell

Kindle Edition, 288 pages
Published September 1st 2017 by Covenant Communications

Charlotte Wells does not date. After surviving a broken engagement, she’s taken a leave of absence from the social scene. So when her best friend and coworker, Jack, challenges her to get back in the game, she’s not so sure she’s ready to play. But ultimately, curiosity gets the best of her, and Charlotte accepts the daunting challenge: she will attempt to have fifty first dates in her effort to find “the one.”

Unfortunately, she quickly realizes that the dating pool mostly holds clown fish as she goes on one lousy outing after another. Without a good man in sight as summer ends, Charlotte cuts her losses and sets her sights on a fun-filled trip to her cousin’s destination wedding in Brazil.

Brazil is a land of beautiful sights and delicious offerings—including Max, the charming brother of her cousin’s new husband. Max has all the makings of a Prince Charming in soccer cleats, and Charlotte’s happily ever after seems to be within reach. But love is a funny thing, and soon Charlotte finds herself wondering: could it be that her true love has been right in front of her all along?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My Review:  4 Stars

Have you ever thought you knew exactly how something was going to go, only to be surprised when it doesn't work out that way at all? I thought I knew where the ending was heading, but then I got caught up in all of the surprise twists, especially when they were almost too crazy to be true.

The fun really starts when Charlotte and her best friend and co-worker, Jack, attend a Brazilian party and get these wish bracelets. Three wishes? No problem and Charlotte is shocked when most of them almost immediately start to come true. Jack challenges her to go on 50 first dates, which results in hilarity and unbelievable, laugh-out-loud entertainment.

The story is broken up into three distinct parts. First, we are treated to Jack's and Charlotte's working relationship, as well as the 50 dates. Next, we are taken to Brazil, where Charlotte attends her cousin's wedding and a whole new world is opened up to her and to the reader. I loved the descriptions of this beautiful place. And last of all, we are given when happens when the two former parts merge.

The real emotion comes to play with the easy banter and comradery that Jack and Charlotte have with each other. I loved their friendship and that they have each other's backs. Through all the ups and downs that this story brings, the romantic element shines through and is my favorite part. I wanted a little more of a spark, but I was still happy with how it all turned out.

Content: mild romance; moderate religious elements, specific to the LDS religion.

The Sheriff's Bride: Country Brides, Cowboy Boots by Kimberly Krey {Review}

The Sheriff's Bride (A Cobble Creek Romance)
by Kimberly Krey
Kindle Edition
Published September 18th 2017 by Gelato Publishing LLC

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36270401-the-sheriff-s-bride?from_search=true

Trent Lockheart might be the new sheriff in town, but he can’t stop Jessie Jean from stealing his heart.

Sheriff Trent Lockheart knew he’d be in for a challenge when he moved from the big city and a large police force to the small Wyoming town of Cobble Creek. But at least he’d be able to stick to his bachelor ways without temptation. So he thought. Cobble Creek isn’t overflowing with young, single ladies, but Jessie Jean—the gorgeous brunette who runs the Country Quilt Inn—proves more tempting than any woman he’s known.

Jessie doesn’t care much for the new sheriff in town. After an explosive first meeting that almost ends in Jessie’s arrest, she’s even more determined to plan on dinner for one for the rest of her life. Sure, the new sheriff is seriously attractive, and after a second, much less dangerous run-in, he might not be that bad, but Jessie has no plan to marry, date, or even let a man into her life. Still, as the days pass, Trent’s surprising charm works past Jessie’s determination, and she finds promise in their budding relationship.

After opening up about the difficulties in her past, Jessie finds that Trent is guarding a dark tragedy of his own, one that might threaten their chance at a future together.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My Review: 5 Stars

I'm going to be a hypocrite for a minute. Hello---can I say, cover love?! And now that I totally just judged this book by the cover, I'm going to say that you can't really judge a book by its cover. Trent is the new sheriff in town and by first impressions, he's kind of stuffy and a strict rule-abider. His first meet with Jessie is hilarious and the situation really shows who these characters are and how opposite they are from one another. But don't opposites attract? Okay, back to that judging thing, Trent surprised me and definitely had reasons for being the way he is. Don't we all? So really...don't judge books by covers, or people by first impressions.

I adore Krey and her way of making characters come to life through volatile situations, dynamic banter, and steamy clean romance. There's also something about her writing, especially with the settings, that really strikes a chord deep inside of me and gives me a nostalgic feeling and this small, charming town is no exception.

There are so many events that happen that left me dying to see how they would turn out, especially when Jessie is auctioned off for a date. The denial of attraction is no match for the sparks that emerge through the banter and encounters. I loved this story and can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the series. Cobble Creek...I'll be back!

At the age of six, she became a reading machine. Devouring everything she could possibly get her hands on. In high school she almost failed English three times because of her detest for writing book reports. Today, Sarah writes whatever stories haunt her dreams, and struggles to focus on one idea at a time. When she isn’t enjoying time with her family, or writing, you will find her nose stuck in a book, or out walking and enjoying the sunshine.
Drowning Sandy is her debut novella!
