Recently forced into the underwater city of Atlantis, Emma Harris has managed to avoid marrying the merman who brought her, but her grandfather—the Sea King—insists that joining with the abusive Merrick is inevitable. When Emma discovers a poison that might restore her human lungs, she goes in search of the rare creature that carries it, prepared to try the poison no matter the cost, so she can return home to her family—and to James.

Since his girlfriend went missing, James’ depression has destroyed his chance at a basketball scholarship and incurred the wrath of his uncle, who was once his strongest supporter. When the police inform him that he’s a suspect in Emma’s mysterious disappearance, James sells his beloved motorcycle to buy a boat so he can find Emma and prove his innocence before going on trial for a murder he didn’t commit.

With destiny against them, it’s only a matter of time before both are imprisoned forever.

My Review: 4 Stars

I've always been a little fascinated with mermaids and was left wondering what would happen after Book 1. This is NOT a standalone, so be sure to read that one first. I'm happy to say that this one picked right up where Ocean So Deep left off.

I think it's sometimes human nature to want what you don't have. If you have curly hair, you wish for straight; if it's hot, you wish for cooler temps; if you have a fin, you wish for legs. Okay, so Emma did have a taste of both worlds and knows what she wants, but it's a complicated mess under the sea and it's a seemingly impossible task to get it.

This book vacillates between Emma's trials in the ocean and her boyfriend's struggles on land. James is the main suspect in her disappearance and he is desperately trying to find her. The love he has for her is almost as heart-wrenching as it is endearing.

The adventure and thrills that are captured through each journey is very engaging and I loved the creativity of what life in the ocean might be like. My mind was spinning, picturing it all so vividly. I only wish communication and trust would have been a more important emphasis for some of the characters. Overall, this is a fun and entertaining fantasy read.

Content: mild+ language (mostly mild but one moderate word); mild+ romance (some innuendo, talk of naked mermaids, not graphic); mild violence.

*I received a copy, which didn't affect my opinion. All thoughts are my own.*
