My Review: 5 Stars
I absolutely love the world that Ms. Keith has built through this series. Some books spend so much time creating the setting that the plot drags, but not this one. Each book adds more to this unique island near Antarctica in the mid 2020s and I'm always completely fascinated. Vacillating between a character in the US and this settlement, the plot is engaging, and mainly driven by a plant in this book, but nonetheless, it completely captured my attention. I read it straight through with hardly a break.
Sophia is desperate to escape her family and work on researching a medicinal plant to further the type of help and care that can be received in The Land. A distant cousin, back in the US, is also studying this plant, and the conclusions that are drawn are priceless.
The characters are fantastic and the way they each handle and deal with their individual situations is great. I love getting to know more residents of The Land and seeing old favorites play important roles once again. These people are so interesting because they live in a slightly future time, but almost live as pioneers.
I feel like this is one series that could go on and on and on without getting old because there are so many little tidbits that are introduced each time that leave me wanting more information. There are relationships that I want to read more about as well. As with the other books in the series, this story leaves it wide open for more, so I'm a happy camper and honestly can't wait.
Content: very mild violence (mostly emotional); very mild romance; very mild religious elements.
