A woman rancher struggles to save her ranch, but it’s her heart she’s most in danger of losing.

Storm’s ranch is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy after cattle rustlers strike. When her part-time ranch hand dies under suspicious circumstances, two neighboring ranchers step in to help. In jeopardy of losing the only place that’s ever felt like home, who can she trust with her heart?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I haven't read Book 1 in this series, but I definitely need to. This book stands alone just fine--I just really liked it and want to read more by this author.

Storm. What a perfect name for this stubborn and tenacious character. Storm is on the verge of losing her ranch, due to cattle rustlers. She's moved many times over the course of her 27 years, but nowhere has felt like home more than her uncle's ranch, which she now owns. When Connor, her part-time help dies suspiciously and an unexpected event forces Storm to take it easy, two neighbors offer to help. Taggert is an on-again/off-again flame and Dak, a widow, is back for a time with his two young girls. Romance, mystery, and suspense abound, culminating in a few surprising twists.

My favorite characters: Storm, although stubborn, is easy to like, as she is hard-working and independent. She's also got a great streak of spit-fire fun in her. Dak and his two girls are great characters. They're very likable and I love the traditions they have. Boots, the uncle, is a fountain of wisdom and his cowboy lingo is endearing.

I spent a very small part of my toddler years on a ranch. While I don't remember it, I have a little soft spot for ranch life in my heart. Cowboys, in my mind, are generally hard working, kind, and loyal and this story showed that with some of the characters. Of course, there are always a few bad eggs in the bunch, but overall, this story struck a chord in my heart. My emotions were tugged in several different directions and I enjoyed the journey, the resolution, the characters, and the setting. The mystery/suspense is well done and I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series!

Content: mild violence; mild romance (kissing); Clean!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27823083-one-enchanted-christmas?from_search=true&search_version=service

Last December, mystery author Maren Grant had the most perfect night of her life. On a glimmering winter evening, she got to watch the photo shoot for her very first book and ended up on a magical date with the cover model himself—Colin Renwycke.

Fast forward one year. This December, with a looming deadline, restless spirit and her creative spark long since gone, Maren is desperate to get unstuck. And she can’t get Colin out of her head…or his year-old open invitation to spend a couple weeks writing at his family’s farm.

Drew Renwycke never planned to come home and take over the Renwycke family farm. But he’s spent too many years watching his siblings unravel, including his brother, Colin, after one terrible family mistake. If moving to Maple Valley, Iowa, renovating an old farmhouse and switching careers is what it takes to put the Renwycke family back together, he’ll do it.

But his simple plan upends when a scrappy author lands on his doorstep. And she just might be the key to coaxing his brother home. But what if he wants her all to himself? Drew will have to choose between his Christmas wish and the enchantment of a holiday romance that just might be the happy ending they all long for.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I love the premise--an author falls for her main character, hence, falls for the cover model. Brilliant! Who hasn't had a little crush on a fictional character before?

Maren was lucky enough to go to the photo shoot for her book and ends up going on an enchanted date with Colin, the cover model. Almost a whole year has passed and she can't quit thinking about that open-ended invitation sent via postcard--a chance to go to his family's abandoned farmhouse to write. She could definitely use some inspiration for her next book, right about now. A spur-of-the-moment decision lands her trying to get into the farmhouse--but it's not really abandoned. Colin's older brother, Drew, is now making a go of the farm.

I love the way Maren interjects runaway thoughts to the readers, as if this is a play or a movie. She's such a creative, yet serious, yet humorous character--one who is very endearing. She often surprised me by her words, actions, and reactions.

Drew is a sturdy, stable, responsible character and takes his role in the family and community seriously. Colin is flighty, fun, and fickle--the opposite of Drew--but has an important role in the story. I loved their sister, Leigh, who has been down on her luck until now, as well as her daughter, Winnie. Such great characters, a quirky small town, and a magical setting during an enchanting time of year. I can't wait to read more about this family and this town!

Content: mild romantic elements (kissing, very vague implication of something from the past). Clean!

A freak ski accident brings nineteen-year old Mia Kinney within minutes of death. Hurt and scared, Mia is calmed by the southern drawl and clear green eyes of her rescuer.

Twenty-one year old Dylan Blackburn is one of the first Ski Patrol members on the scene. As his patient is airlifted to the local trauma center, he can’t shake her from his thoughts.

As Mia fights for her life, Dylan, is haunted by the blonde hair beauty, and knows he needs to make sure she’s going to be okay.

With a troubled past Dylan has vowed never to completely open himself up to another girl, but Mia continues to knock down every wall he’s constructed. When his past arrives at his front door and threatens once again someone that he loves, will Dylan be able to save Mia yet again? Or will he be too late this time?

A story of love, friendship, and the determination to turn a horrible experience into something worthwhile.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I found it interesting that the author takes a real-life event, as explained at the end of the book, and turns it into a novel. There were moments that I was drawn into the story, but there were also moments that fell a little flat for me.

Mia is a black diamond, nineteen year old, snowboarder and in a freak accident, she falls from the lift and is injured. Almost half of the book revolves around that incident and the hospital stay afterward. My biggest issue with the book is there are way too many voices, especially in the first half, as the story is told from five different points of view. I thought it was interesting and the medical portion was well researched, but too confusing, and could have been just as effective with one or two voices. Mia is brave, strong, and a real fighter.

Dylan, the ski patrolman who rescued Mia, plays an interesting role in her recovery and life after the accident. His story controls a good portion of the remainder of the book and while interesting, some parts felt unbelievable to me. For example, how could a girl who endured what Mia did, along with three separate surgeries, be in top physical form and ready for romance within a month? I liked Dylan's character and he has a lot of potential to be great.

This book is entertaining--there was just something missing to completely link the characters and situations together in a smooth way. It seemed at times to be promoting better ski lift equipment and then would jump to a friend who suddenly feels stronger, reciprocated feelings for Mia, then jumping to an unexpectedly jealous boyfriend. I struggled to feel an emotional connection to any of the characters, but enjoyed the story on the surface.

Content: moderate violence (abuse, injuries, etc); mild-moderate swearing; moderate romantic elements (kissing, some innuendo, touching breasts twice--once under clothes, once over).

Cookie Girl Christmas by Christene Houston {Review}

Cookie Girl Christmas by Christene Houston

Molly Hayes has one more job before Christmas and then she can put her plans for a storefront bakery of her own in motion.

What she doesn't bargain for is the handsome young Scrooge who insults her cookies and makes her blood boil. Toss in a heaping helping of snowstorm and a pinch of romantic old Inn and you've got yourself the perfect recipe for a not-so-silent-night.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Molly is a woman who loves to bake and is working towards the goal of owning a bakery of her own. I love sweets and love to bake as well, so I felt a cozy connection with Molly. She is also single and has no plans to change that status. Losing her mother as a teenager kind of ruined love for her--why get attached to someone if you might lose him or her? As Molly is working on a big Twelve Days of Christmas job, her last one before finally having enough to make her bakery dreams come true, she meets a real-life Scrooge--Greyson. He is the prodigal son returned and this whole month of parties are just for him. He's got a big chip on his shoulder and Molly wants nothing to do with it...until something changes all of that.

I love a good Christmas romance that really focuses on the holiday and makes me feel those warm fuzzies. I also love it when the story parallels, even loosely, a great Christmas classic and this one delivers! Both Molly and Greyson have issues to work through and resolve and the story faintly plays out like A Christmas Carol. Of course, when a great, clean romance is thrown into the mix, I'm in heaven. I loved the snarky banter and the fun cookie and baking metaphors. This story is full of great characters, a fantastic setting, scrumptious recipes, and more. This is one I need to add to my re-read list each and every year. And now...if you need me, I'll be in the kitchen, trying out these recipes.

Content: mild, swoony kissing. Clean!

But guests are expecting a Christmas Eve wedding...!

What could be more romantic than a Christmas wedding at a ski lodge in Lake Placid? Well, if there actually was a wedding, for one thing! Three stories about getting love right over the holidays by USA TODAY bestselling author Kristine Rolofson and award-winners Karen Rock and Jennifer Snow.

The Kiss A bride runs into her ex...and takes the ultimate gamble!

The Wish An event planner sprains her ankle...and the chef asserts control.

The Promise A maid of honor dodges an ex-boyfriend out to right a past wrong...

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

What a delightful set of clean romance stories! I love it when a collection builds on a story and this one delivers. Each story revolves around a wedding set to take place on Christmas Eve at a gorgeous ski resort in Lake Placid, NY. Each little novella tells the story of different characters, but they're all connected and make appearances in other books, which I loved.

We start with The Kiss. Julie is ready to be the bride and live a perfect happily ever after...until she runs into her old boyfriend, Austin. Events happen to cause Julie to reconsider what she thinks is her dream and to fully examine her heart. I admire Julie and loved her determination. She's not one to shy away from the hard stuff in life, yet she is so generous. My heart was warmed by her thoughtful actions.

Next up, we get The Wish. Grace is a wedding planner, who works for the ski lodge. She also works closely with Nico, the former TV chef and heartthrob. While coordinating this wedding and the event encompassing it, she slips and hurts her ankle. Badly. Nico comes to the rescue! He's got the perfect setup for caring for an injured crush and he's very determined to show her just how much he cares. Grace is a bit stubborn, but still so sweet. I couldn't help but fall for Nico myself--what a dashing and chivalrous man.

We end this collection with The Promise. Alexis, the maid of honor, finally shows up, only to run into Julie's cousin, her ex-boyfriend, Liam. Things ended years before on a very bad note, but Liam is determined to show uptight lawyer, Alexis, that he's changed--he's not the same old, big-headed, football player who he once was. Who wants to be burned again? Not Alexis. She's determined to avoid Liam at all costs, but he's equally determined to get in her way.

This collection is a great Christmas romance to really put you in the mood for the holidays and I loved each story equally. Each tale is different, yet connected in ways that really ties things together.

Content: some mild language; kissing. Clean!

Romance at the Christmas Tree Lot by Marcia Lynn McClure {Review}

Romance at the Christmas Tree Lot by Marcia Lynn McClure
Published December 15th 2014
Contemporary Holiday Romance
My Rating: 5 Stars

Description:

Mayvee couldn’t keep from giggling. The fact that this tall, dark, and handsome Christmas tree shopper was at the lot to buy a Christmas tree for his grandparents was endearing enough on its own. But add to it the fact that he’d paid enough attention to his grandma’s Christmas ornaments to know she liked Radko ornaments was just too adorable!

When Craig had called her over to help a new customer, Mayvee hadn’t expected to see a guy so classically handsome that he looked like he’d stepped straight out of Hollywood’s Silver Screen era. But at the same time, he was more rugged-looking than any truly manly-man she’d ever seen.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Mayvee works at her family's Christmas tree lot and is a spunky bundle of fun. She's got a great personality and is pretty, too. She also has a side business of decorating trees for people, especially the elderly. Kord is a dashing, ruggedly handsome man, buying a tree for his grandparents this year and just can't resist Mayvee's charms.

This is a very short and sweet Christmas romance without a lot of conflict. I love the references to the nostalgic things of Christmas and of course, the romance is swoony. As always, I love the snippets at the back and the bonus recipe included sounds so yummy.

I always enjoy this author's full-length novels, but this one is perfect for the busy holiday season and a great escape for a cold winter's night.

Content: a few cuss words; kissing. Clean!

Christmas Blitz Day 12 -- All is Merri and Bright by Tifani Clark

Merri Wilcox has finally achieved her greatest dream and opened her own hair salon. Life is bliss until Brighton Stansbury walks through her door. Growing up, Brighton was behind every bad thing that happened to Merri. She hasn't seen him since high school graduation and could have happily continued like that forever.

When a winter storm traps Merri and Brighton together, will the pair finally learn to get along, or will the Christmas holiday become their new war zone?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

This is a wonderful book, perfect for the holidays. This hard cover book is a collection of favorite and memorable stories, poems, Christmas carols, interesting facts, history, recipes, and scriptures. I loved the way the pictures are so nostalgic and colorful.

The book begins with a scriptural account of Christ's birth, taken from both the Book of Mormon and the Bible. The layout is very pleasing, with the different elements mixed together--a poem, a carol, a few recipes, a couple of stories, a quote, etc. This book has everything you need to really think about and celebrate Christmas, all in one place! I loved reading about the most popular Christmas toys through the years, as well as re-reading old favorite stories, such as The Gift of the Magi. The classic poem The Night Before Christmas is included, as is a fun recipe for reindeer food. I loved the group game ideas and the list of favorite family Christmas movies. The lyrics to It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, with a little history behind the song, was fun to read. This is one going into our Christmas book box to be re-read each and every Christmas.

Words of Christmas

Investigate the deeper meanings of Christmas day by day with this beautifully designed book filled with thoughts to keep you close to the heart of the holiday. Explore one word each day from December first through Christmas Day-like an advent calendar-or choose to reflect on a word that is right for the moment. These elegant words of cheer and wisdom will surely help you reflect on the Savior this Christmas season.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

This hardcover book really hit home for me. It's recommended that the reader ponder one word and the corresponding thought and scripture for each day during the month of December, counting down to Christmas. There are words such as "Hope," "Christ," "Peace," and "Joy." I loved how each word is detailed, as the quote is something to ponder throughout the day. The word that jumped out at me is "Giving." Christmas isn't just about giving gifts, but it's also giving your time, love, and sacrifice. I hadn't thought of it that way before and I need to do better with that in the future.

These little gems are perfect for bringing the true meaning of Christmas into a person's life and home. I'm looking forward to taking a whole month, next year, to utilize this book.

This 3 inch figure of Christ is a perfect addition to any Christmas decor. Christ's birth is the reason that we celebrate this holiday and his life is the example we should pattern ours after. I love this smooth, matte finished figure to remind me of what Christmas (and life) is really all about. It's beautifully detailed and great to display all year round. I especially love the size--it can fit into almost any space.

Janice Kapp Perry got me through some of my toughest teenage years! Her songs are close to my heart because of that. There are some songs included in this book that I haven't thought of for years, yet as soon as I played them again, memories came flooding back to me and they were stuck in my head for days. I love the primary songs as well, as they are some of my favorites, and I'm currently the Primary chorister in my ward. One of my favorite things about this collection, is the illustrations that accompany each song. I loved looking at each of them in detail.

I was surprised to discover a whole section of new hymns that are about the Book of Mormon! These are songs that I'm looking forward to getting to know and learn better. I had a lot of fun trying to play through the songs and to think about these new lyrics. This is a great collection of music for any LDS family.

No Ordinary Shepherd -- DVD

As the sun beams brightly on the hills surrounding Palestine, one young shepherd boy thoughtfully considers the significance of the day. The child, cripples in a terrible accident, has always treasured his shepherd father's tale of that starlit night so many years before — a night filled with the wonder of angelic heralds and a tiny Bethlehem stable sheltering the chosen Messiah. Now, years since that sacred event, tales of Jesus of Nazareth's miraculous birth touch the young boy's faith. When he meets the gentle stranger in the hills — a man oddly familiar to him — the faithful young shepherd encounters a miracle of his own.

I don't know what it is about Christmas movies, but the ones that are heartwarming, pack a punch full of emotion, have a Christmas miracle, and help me remember what's really important are the best! This is a short one, about 25 minutes long, but it's got all of the elements of a truly great movie. Definitely check this one out to get into the true holiday spirit.

He Knows My Name -- DVD

Rebekah is fascinated by the man her neighbors call Jesus. Her mother is not so sure. One day she brings Jesus home—a simple act that will forever change their lives.
Running time: 35 minutes

I hate to cry, but I love a good movie that can move me to tears...in a good way. This movie is a great reminded that Christ does know each of us personally and individually. It's also a great reminder of faith. Rebekah is fascinated by Jesus, yet her mother is skeptical. It's easy to place myself in this situation and wonder what I would do and how I would act.

This is a sweet and tender story that I plan on watching more than once. It's not only a good movie for this Christmas season, but for Easter, as well. Or really, any time.

Here are a few great snippets!
Romance:

I was convinced I would never see him again. I had tried unsuccessfully to expel him from my thoughts, but he was always there, haunting my dreams and slipping into my mind during the day.

Suspense:

The morning after Twelfth Night, I had planned to leave London and return to Eyre Hall. I was having breakfast by the hearth at the inn, when someone crept up behind me and sat down in the chair to my right. I looked down at his unsteady hands, fearing he wished me no good.
“Michael, I done it. I killed him.”
