Midnight Sisters:
Do no meddle with the Master's daughters.
The words rattle around Jonas’ head. What is the punishment again? Death? Dismemberment? Jonas, the newest addition to the gardening staff, can’t recall the exact penalty for breaking the rule. What does it matter anyway? He would never dream of meddling with the Earl of Bromhurst’s haughty daughters.
Until he comes face to face with Lady Ariela Spencer, the eldest of the His Lordship’s daughters.
Her elusive smile and open manner cause him to question his convictions. In no time, he’s drawn into Lady Ariela's world of mystery and intrigue, a world where she and her sisters will do anything—including leaving twelve empty beds at midnight—to escape their father’s strict rules.
Only Jonas can uncover the truth and save them from their father’s wrath and their own folly, if he is willing to risk everything he’s ever worked for.

Excerpt from Midnight Sisters:
“Jonas—”
I could see the words growing in his eyes.
“You know the cardinal rule.”
I wanted to roll my eyes, but kept my expression bland instead. Showing impatience had consequences for an undergardener.
“Do not meddle with the Master’s daughters.”
I had heard the words so many times my ears felt like they would start bleeding. If Higgins knew how pointless it was to fire them at me time and again, he’d save his breath.
“Understood?” Higgins asked with one eyebrow cocked.
The thought of running back to my family became more appealing with every upward slant of that eyebrow. “Yes, sir.”

My Review: 4 Stars
I always feel so young at heart when I read a fairytale or a fairytale retelling. I love the magical romance, the adventure, and the moments of danger--these situations engage my imagination. I've always loved the story of the Twelve Dancing Princesses and really appreciated the differences and unique circumstances and events in this variation.
Ariela is the eldest sister and she and gardener, Jonas, form a forbidden friendship. The sisters each want independence from their overprotective father and find a way to escape for periods of time. I feel the reader gets to know Jonas best, as the story is told in first person, from his point-of-view, but we are also treated to Ariela's character. The other sisters didn't make huge appearances, but it's still fun to catch the glimpses of them and their personalities.
The mystery and peril in this story is engaging. I kept wondering how things would play out because it was different than the original. It was fun to keep guessing and more often than not, I was surprised. I guess I want a new BFF every time I read a book and would have loved to get to know the characters a little better--more in depth. If you love original fairytale retellings, then check this one out.
Content: a couple of mild swear words; mild romance; mild violence.

***Can I just say that as much as I loved the main characters, I adored this youngest, sassy, spitfire of a sister? I'm thrilled that I get to spotlight her.***
Specialized Character Sketch
Meet Larela:
He brushed his moist lips over the back of my hand and cultivated the same sultry smolder he’d poured on everyone between my father and me.
Blech.
It didn’t matter that he was attractive, wealthy, and well-dressed. Leftovers and hand-me-downs weren’t my style. With eleven sisters it was practically impossible to be remarkable. All the same I refused to just another pretty face.
The nobleman turned back to the more eligible females in my family without giving me another second of his attention. I cast a wistful glance toward the gardeners. Green eyes caught mine and held. I glanced away but I couldn’t stop my lips from twitching upward.
“Lari?” Krisela whispered. Everyone else had headed back inside. Hopefully they wouldn’t miss me.
“I’ll be right there, Kris. I’m just taking a turn around the flower garden to clear my head.”
“All right,” she said with the knowing smile. She’d cover for me if it was necessary.
I headed down the path. Out of habit, I felt for the note tucked in my sash. It crinkled comfortingly beneath my touch. I stepped into the rose garden before I pulled it out. By now the staff should be headed back to their posts. I opened the single sheet and scanned the familiar lines. Fairest Lady . . . I closed my eyes, pressed the note to my heart and recited the words from memory. A rush of pleasure danced in my stomach. It wasn’t great poetry. That didn’t matter. A girl never forgets her first love letter. I pressed my lips to the name scrawled at the bottom and grinned.
