I am a traditionally published,award-winning, best-selling writer who has recently gone Indie. I enjoy genre-hopping, having published a genealogical mystery series, two women's fiction novels, an historical epic, two suspense novels, five Regency romances, and a couple of non-fiction offerings.
With a BA from Stanford and an MA from George Washington University in International Relations, I somehow stumbled into finance. But, once my husband was through law school, I never wanted to do anything but write and raise kids. Now the kids are gone, but (even better) there are four grandchildren who provide my rewards for finishing a manuscript.
Aside from the grandchildren, my favorite things include: Florence, Italy; snow storms; Oreos; real hot chocolate; sweaters; Sundance Resort; lilacs; and dachshunds.

Frank was asked to escort Sophie to her first ball. She had an injury as a child that left her unable to dance. Little did he know, she would charm the socks off him!!
I'm not an expert of the Regency period, but Ms. Vandagriff seemed to do an exceptional job in using true-to-period language and dialogue. I thought that really added to the story.
Sophie was such a sweet and trusting girl. Even when Frank became involved in some compromising situations, she wasn't overly angry--she was more self-punishing, if anything. She was willing to give him up and live the life of a spinster, because if she couldn't have him, she wanted no one. I guess she was naive, but it was endearing. It seemed that she and Melissa were such good friends, yet they knew nothing about the other one's feelings.
Frank, for all of his worldliness, was clueless to the ways of the ton. I had to laugh at some of the situations he found himself in. It was like someone gave him a shovel--he would try and get out of one scrape and find himself even deeper into another one. The harder he tried to dig himself out, the worse things got.
I enjoyed watching the story and the different bits and pieces come together. I would have liked more closure on the school for the poor. I felt like that was brought up time and again and then dropped. I had forgotten that I had read a book about one of Sophie's sisters awhile ago. This book is part of a series, yet is perfectly fine as a stand-alone.
