My Own Tour
mr darcyMy Own Mr. Darcy After being dragged to the 2005 movie Pride and Prejudice by her mother, sixteen-year-old Elizabeth’s life changes when Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy appears on the screen. Lizzie falls hard and makes a promise to herself that she will settle for nothing less than her own Mr. Darcy. This ill-advised pledge threatens to ruin any chance of finding true love. During the six intervening years, she has refused to give any interested suitors a chance. They weren’t Mr. Darcy enough. Coerced by her roommate, Elizabeth agrees to give the next interested guy ten dates before she dumps him. That guy is Chad, a kind and thoughtful science teacher and swim coach. While she’s dating Chad, her dream comes true in the form of a wealthy bookstore owner named Matt Dawson, who looks and acts like her Mr. Darcy. Of course she has to follow her dream. But as Elizabeth simultaneously dates a regular guy and the dazzling Mr. Dawson, she’s forced to re-evaluate what it was she loved about Mr. Darcy in the first place.

My Review: *****--5 Stars. Right off the bat, I knew I'd love this story. Elizabeth, a teenager, gets dragged to the movie Pride and Prejudice by her mother and just knows she'll hate it--but as soon as Mr. Darcy walks in, her world is altered. That one, pivotal moment influences the next six years of her dating life. Lizzie decides she is on the hunt for her perfect Mr. Darcy--and no one fits the bill, until she meets Matt. Unfortunately, she'd already promised her best friend to give Chad 10 dates before dumping him. How is it possible to really like two completely different guys??

I really enjoyed the characters--even the ones I couldn't stand. I loved the friendship that Lizzie shared with Janessa; I loved the way Chad and Lizzie were together--such an easy, gradual relationship; I loved the way Lizzie would try and mold Matt's characteristics to fit her ideal. I can understand Lizzie's dreams--I think the longer a person holds on to her idea of the perfect guy, the more unrealistic that dream becomes, yet it's nearly impossible to let go of it. That in itself really made Lizzie feel real to me.

The guys were so different. I don't mind love triangles--especially when I have a clear favorite, which I totally did in this case. Chad had a lot of great qualities and was soooo sweet!! Matt was totally like Mr. Darcy--at first--very arrogant and aloof. He never really seemed to morph into Mr. Darcy though.

This is a great book for any Austen fan looking for a modern spin-off.

Content: some mild kissing; clean.

  1. Thank you for reading and reviewing My Own Mr. Darcy. I'm so grateful! And I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I know a few people who have never learned to adjust their teenage dreams of the perfect guy and it rarely works out well for them. Sadly.

    Have a great day.
