Review: Hotwire by Cindy M. Hogan with Giveaway

HotwireHotwire by Cindy M. Hogan
Division spy Christy Hadden can't wait for her latest assignment posing as a student at a prestigious New York City academy and car thief extraordinaire. The best part of the mission is her attractive handler, Jeremy, and her new team. The worst part? The sociopath masquerading as the academy's most popular guy. But soon she realizes the car thieves are much more than they seem. Her simple spying mission becomes more dangerous than anyone imagined. If the organization discovers her true identity, they won't hesitate to kill her, and if she fails, others will suffer the same fate. Young Adults, teens and adults will love this exciting suspenseful adventure with a dash of romance. You won't want to put it down.

My Review
I really enjoyed Adrenaline Rush, but liked this one even better. This is Book 2 in the series, but they can stand alone, since each book is about completely different missions.

Christy is an 18 year old spy and as I mentioned in my review of Book 1 (found here), I don't think I have it in me to be one myself. I was on the edge of my seat, wondering how in the world she was going to get out of some of the situations she found herself in. She is very resourceful and is able to think fast on her feet, unlike me.

There is a ring of car thieves who steal expensive cars and are thought to be high school students at a prestigious NYC school. Christy goes undercover to try and get in with the group, in order to recover a specific car. The leader is thought to be one of the most popular boys at school. Christy soon finds herself in the thick of it, not really knowing who to trust and in more danger than she ever counted on. It's crazy how fast she was thrust into the middle of it and it's also easy, and sad, to see how some of these unlikely kids ended up in the group.

I was trying to pinpoint what I liked about Christy in this one and I decided it's because she's more real. She gets creeped out by some of the characters, can really sense the danger, and has real fears. She's put in situations that she's not comfortable with and I was really able to sense her feelings and her insecurity. She's not as confident, yet she tries hard to be. She has to really push the limits with her acting abilities. The bad guys were easy to hate, as they were really portrayed in a scary, creepy way. I'm looking forward to more!

Content: mostly violence--some abuse, attempted rape, stealing, but also some mild innuendo and kissing. I would consider it clean for an older reader.
