Description:
Miss Onyx Hamilton is about to make what everyone agrees is a perfect marriage―until handsome Major Jack Beresford comes galloping into her life. But with his fortune and connections, Onyx knows he’d never ask for her hand, would he? New and longtime fans alike will relish this delightful romance from Carla Kelly. Charming, sweet, and full of fun, it’s simply impossible to put down.

My Review:
Onyx comes from an imperfect background but she's about to make a perfect match--at least, in everyone else's opinion. A vicar wants to marry her, but she's not excited about it at all. He's pompous and overbearing and she just can't quite resign herself to a life with him. On her way to be closer to him before the marriage, she wishes for excitement and finds it when highwaymen attack and she is rescued by a major.

Jack is coming home from war after four long years and is more than ready to be home, but he can't help but step in and rescue a damsel in distress. I love how humble and humorous he is. He's described as not being overly handsome, but there's something about him that Onyx finds very attractive. I love how she is able to see him for who he is and not his outward appearance.

I enjoyed the interactions they shared with one another--very witty and fun. I love the way Jack makes Onyx feel more capable, useful, and confident. She is constantly told that she mustn't show emotion or that she's not fashionable enough or that she's an inconvenience, but he really makes her feel that she's above all of that and she's able to be herself around him. Onyx doesn't really know who Jack is, yet she gives him tender care while he's injured and dishes out some sauciness, allowing him to be his true self with her as well.

This is pure light-hearted fun and I enjoyed every minute.

Content: Clean romance (kissing, an attempted rape/attack, mild innuendo); no language; mild religious elements (just mentions she's marrying a vicar and some of the duties involved); mild violence (attack, war stories--not graphic)
