Twenty-five years ago, Sutton Smith was stripped of his rank of commodore and his promising career in the British Royal Navy. The real loss came when the love of his life dumped him and married a scheming duke.

Duchess Elizabeth Gunthry has never been able to search for the only man she ever loved, she's had to protect her daughter from the man she was forced to marry. After obtaining a secret divorce, she is still trapped under the duke's oppressive thumb. When the enigma she's mourned for twenty-five years, Sutton Smith, appears at a formal ball to rescue her daughter, Liz is grateful to have one last dance with the love of her life and discovers all the old feelings instantly surface.

When Sutton asks her to leave with them and trust him, she has to make a choice: trust in the man she's always loved or play it safe and lose everything.

My Review: 5 Stars

Sometimes it's hard to let go of that hope of one day reuniting with the one who got away and after twenty-five years of separate, but equally challenging lives, Sutton and Liz have their second chance.

THE CAPTIVATING WARRIOR picks up right where THE PROTECTIVE WARRIOR leaves off, so I would suggest reading that one first to get the fully understand some of the characters.

Liz is in a terrible marriage, but she is so amazing in how she rises above all of that. Her selfless is admirable. As for Sutton--he's pretty awesome and easy to crush on. His bravery and flawless planning makes the heart flutter. I loved seeing glimpses of other characters in the series, as well.

Cami Checketts really is a master at creating a suspense that gives me major anxiety, yet wraps me up a comforting and tender romance that's full of emotion. And the twists! I loved them. This one is definitely gripping and full of tense moments, yet the promise of peace glimmering in the distance got me through.

Content: mild, swoony romance; mild violence
