We are so excited for our first annual
Have Yourself a Very Swoony Christmas event,

Traditions are what really make the holidays memorable!
Each Tuesday we will be posting about some of our
favorite Christmas traditions.

Kathy will be posting about one of her family's
favorite traditions for Week 3.

Hmm, this was a hard one for me.  My husband's family always gets together Christmas Eve at his Grandma Donna's house. I've actually loved this tradition and I'm sad every year when we have to miss it. The whole extended family comes together, the younger kids put on a performance of the Nativity story and then a talent show of sorts where anyone can get up and play Christmas music, recite poetry, or whatever their talent may be. It's always a lot of fun. Then Christmas morning my mother--in-law makes an amazing Christmas breakfast!

My side of the family doesn't really do to much. We always get together Christmas afternoon/evening for dinner and gift exchange. Then we just hang out and watch movies, play games or just talk. I actually really enjoy just relaxing with my family.

But, I would really love to start a new tradition for my kids. I would love to get them a children's Christmas book each Christmas Eve, so they can eventually have a nice collection of Christmas books. Oh, and I always get them new pajamas for Christmas Eve as well. And I think this year, I'll start doing the Christmas breakfast and really go all out.  Those are pretty new traditions though, but I look forward to them really becoming a part of my kids Christmas memories.

  1. I love christmas and decorating the tree. I always make cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning. We always open stockings first then start presents, one at a time so everyone can enjoy seeing the joy on each other's face.

  2. I remember always being sick at Christmas, all the excitement. Oh Christmas was always fun and lasted for days.
I remember my parents waking my siblings and I about 2:30 in the morning to let us know that Father Christmas had come and we were allowed to see what was in our bags (couldn't afford stocking). And then ofcourse we had to go back to sleep. In the morning we would be allowed to open a gift, Some gifts would be on the tree and some under. But opening gifts could take a few days as we could only open one at a time and spend time enjoying that 1 gift.
I didn't know until I was old enough to help Mum and Dad that they had a tradition of wrapping the gifts Christmas Eve. (Which when I got married my husband and I did as well). Then ofcourse the day after Christmas was Boxing Day. Oh what fun we had.

  3. I've tried to keep up an all-out Christmas breakfast. I love doing it, but it sure is a lot of work! Good for you!

  4. My mother is a Swede and much of their celebration is done on Christmas Eve so growing up we always had our big dinner, a Swedish smorgasbord, on Christmas Eve, read the Nativity story and then opened up the gifts from our Swedish relatives. Christmas morning we saw what Santa brought and opened our American gifts. It was a great compromise and we loved opening gifts on both days.
