In this new contemporary
from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money
can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into
the picture.
Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment --
She wins!
In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she's talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun... until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn't sure who she can trust.
Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn't seem aware of Maddie's big news. And, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?
With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

My Review: 5 Stars
Have you ever thought about what you would do with 50 million dollars? I can't say that I've thought it out in detail, but when Maddie's spur-of-the-moment lottery ticket purchase turns into the jackpot, she's got a lot to think about.
I love West's style and the way she portrays teenagers, using a lot of wit and emotion. Her characters are very likable and always go through a lot of growth, taking the reader right along with them. Maddie is pretty selfless, mature, sweet and hard-working. She's easy to relate to and it kind of made me upset to see how she was treated because of the burden of so much money. I wanted that girl to run to the nearest financial planner ASAP! The other characters are fantastic and portrayed in very realistic ways. Their relationships are all natural. Seth is another favorite because of the way he is able to interact with Maddie. He keeps things light, entertaining, and fun.
I really liked the journey that I went on throughout the story. It made me think: how do I treat others and do I treat them differently because of money? Do I use people to get what I want/need? It made me feel; it made me laugh; and it made me a touch melancholy at times, but overall, it made me happy. So very happy. Keep writing, Ms. West!
