***--3 Stars.

Description: The proven, drug-free program to treat the cause-not just the symptoms-of autism spectrum disorders and related conditions.

Each year, an estimated 1.5 million children-one out of every six-are diagnosed with autism, Asperger's syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, and obsessive compulsive disorder. Dr. Robert Melillo brings a fundamentally new understanding to the cause of these conditions with his revolutionary Brain Balance Program(tm). It has achieved real, fully documented results that have dramatically improved the quality of life for children and their families in every aspect: behavioral, emotional, academic, and social. Disconnected Kids shows parents how to use this drug-free approach at home, including:

?Fully customizable exercises that target physical, sensory, and academic performance

?A behavior modification plan

?Advice for identifying food sensitivities that play a hidden role

?A follow-up program that helps to ensure lasting results

My Review: There were some very fascinating ideas in this book. I am all for treating the root of the problem and not just the symptoms. The claim is, there are natural milestones that babies and kids hit and if they skip or miss any, they are building on an uneven foundation and that may cause problems later in life. If these things are "fixed," then the child rids him(or her)self of them. There is a quiz to take and then different questions and therapies to try with your child. I liked how they said not to try and do everything in a day, but to spread it out over several days. I think the thing I struggle the most with is the diet. I know that way too much junk is available nowadays, but it's so hard to completely rid a diet of gluten, dairy, processed foods, sugars, etc. I don't know about anyone else's kids, but mine do not stay full on fruits and veggies alone. I think in some ways, this would definitely would be worth a try, but it would be very hard to do--the diet especially--with school starting soon.
