Can his safe haven be enough for her?

Emma Meadows never imagined that sticking to her principles against an act of corruption by a New York senator would cost her her job as VP of communications. Heartbroken, she retreats to her cottage in the Adirondacks to lick her wounds and, in the process, rescues an injured dog that only Josh Whitmore can save.

The veterinarian works diligently to bring dog and woman back to full fighting form, until allegations against the senator become more serious. Seeing Emma's reaction to the increasing pressure, Josh realizes that inevitably she'll find a way back to the top…and he'll likely lose her for good.

My Review: 4.5 Stars

Sometimes I dream of escaping the pressures of life and retreating to a quiet corner of the world like Emma does. Sanctuary Cove sounds like just the place to go. Ms. James weaves a wonderfully descriptive story about this tranquil place and some of the characters who live there. The reader is not only given a feeling of serenity, but also sees some mystery and romance, as Emma's past catches up to her. Josh is a local vet and a new and stable force in Emma's life.

Emma is like a flash to the future for me. My girls love animals and the way she feels towards them is so sweet and warms my heart. I love how caring Josh is and how hard he works to help Emma resolve her past, but I felt like there was a thread or two left undone. She has some negative emotional ties and I didn't feel like they were settled in a way for her to move on.

That said, I love their deep connection and common interests. I was fully able to visualize relationships and settings due to the very illustrative narrative. The mystery adds just the right touch to the story--it keeps things interesting and causes some friction for the characters to grow from, but it's not overpowering. The romance is sweet and tender, if a bit on the quick side. Overall, it's a highly entertaining and enjoyable read.

Content: some mild language; mild violence, mainly involving animals, talk of death and some threats; mild romance (very, very vaguely implied relations, but very clean).
