Stacking the Shelves #10

Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga's Reviews, is a chance to show what books I bought, borrowed, or received for review. Here's a look at my week:

BOUGHT:

My Spare Lady (Chick Flick Clique Romantic Comedy #3) by Heather Horrocks
Still stinging a year after being dumped by her boyfriend for a fast-talking, black-clad, high-heeled New Yorker, Beth Lawrence decides to leave her calm, predictable, obviously boring life behind and try life in the fast lane for a while—and popular race car driver Eric Davis is just the man to take her for a few laps around the track.
Her Chick-Flick-Clique friends aren’t so sure she’s making the best choice, but she’s ready for a drastic change.
She wants some laughs with no commitment, but can she keep from falling in love with a daredevil with a surprisingly gentle side? Or will her heart hit the wall at two hundred miles an hour?

BORROWED:
The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass
The highly anticipated third book in Kiera Cass's #1 New York Times bestselling Selection series, The One will captivate readers who love dystopian YA fiction and fairy tales. The One is perfect for the fans who have followed America's whirlwind romance since it began—and a swoon-worthy read for teens who have devoured Veronica Roth's Divergent, Ally Condie's Matched, or Lauren Oliver's Delirium.
The Selection changed America Singer's life in ways she never could have imagined. Since she entered the competition to become the next princess of IllĂ©a, America has struggled with her feelings for her first love, Aspen—and her growing attraction to Prince Maxon. Now she's made her choice . . . and she's prepared to fight for the future she wants.
Find out who America will choose in The One, the enchanting, beautifully romantic third book in the Selection series!

FOR REVIEW:
A Piece of Heaven in Utah by Helen Conrad
This book is the Sweet Edition of Make Believe Wife~Kathy Carrington and Jason Harper's story. Can winning a gold medal take the place of winning his heart?
Kathy needs to prove she's not a loser, prove it to her father, and to the world. She thinks she let everyone down in the past--and it happened because she let love get in the way. Her swimming career is soaring-so this is no time to let Jason distract her with his sweet, tempting love. But can she reach her goal if he walks away?
Destiny Bay Romances-The Sweet Editions
These are basically the same stories that are found in Destiny Bay Romances- Forever Yours, but with the conflicts softened a bit, the language cleaned up, and no explicit love scenes. There are still a few adult situations, but they're muted. Consider these the PG versions.

Fear of Falling by Roz Marshall
Get in the mood for your ski holiday with this Scottish skiing story!
A lost child and an approaching blizzard put White Cairns' ski instructor Fiona Easton in a life-threatening predicament. Can she overcome her fear of heights to prevent tragedy blighting her life again?

"A very dramatic story and a compulsive read."

"A strong follow-up to the first instalment, and I can't wait to read more of the stories."

This is a character-driven drama with an action setting, youngish-adult protagonists and some romantic elements. If you enjoy Sunday evening TV drama series like Downton Abbey (with mountains instead of mansions), Glee (with skiing instead of singing) or The Musketeers (with snowstorms instead of swordfights), then this might just be for you!

"Fear of Falling" is the 2nd novella from the 'White Cairns Ski School' series about a Scottish snowsports school. Whilst this is a stand-alone book, you might enjoy reading the series from the first episode, "Winter Arrives". Episode 3, "My Snowy Valentine" and 2 short stories are also available. Episode 4 will be released on 23 June 2014.

Please note:

  • British English spelling and grammar
  • PG / PG-13 content
  • This is a novella of approximately 13,000 words or 70 pages (depending on your device and font size)
All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes by Betsy St. Amant
Kat inspected rows of the same old cupcakes. They seemed to blink back at her, as if they knew she was capable of so much more.
Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.
At twenty-six years old, Kat is still living in the shadows of her family in Bayou Bend, Louisiana. Still working shifts at her Aunt Maggie’s bakery. Still wondering what to do with her passion for baking and her business degree. And still single.
But when Lucas Brannen, Kat’s best friend, signs her up for a reality TV bake-off on Cupcake Combat, everything Kat ever wanted is suddenly dangled in front of her: creative license as a baker, recognition as a visionary . . . and a job at a famous bakery in New York.
As the competition heats up, Lucas realizes he might have made a huge mistake. As much as he wants the best for Kat, the only thing he wants for himself—her—is suddenly in danger of slipping away.
The bright lights of reality cooking wars and the chance at a successful career dazzle Kat’s senses and Lucas is faced with a difficult choice: help his friend achieve her dreams . . . or sabotage her chances to keep her in Louisiana.
