Description:

Maya Tenney just wants to feel safe again. She never would have pictured herself as a woman who runs from danger, but being put in the hospital by a violent man has made her realize that staying alive is more important than her pride. She'll even move in with the grouchiest man she knows if that will scare off her ex.Tristan Jensen knows what it's like to deal with heartbreak, but he's not okay with anyone who hurts women. He's intrigued with Maya but he's done with women who manipulate and use others. Will these two be able to get past their misconceptions of each other or will they let pride destroy what could be a great love story?

My Review:

I'm finally caught up with this series and I absolutely adore all of the characters! I feel like they are dear friends and when they rally around a newcomer, Maya, I felt myself rally around her too. Maya escaped an abusive boyfriend and is seeking the safety that she craves. She even goes as far as getting a new roommate--a grumpy, good looking one named Tristan.

Tristan has seen his fair share of heartache and isn't looking for love at all, but he will do whatever it takes to protect a woman--just as the other men in this town will do. I really, really liked Tristan. Who hasn't hidden behind something to protect their heart? The way this friendship evolves and causes these two to realize that you can't take things at face value is so sweet. I seriously LOVE these people! I love the way explanations cause the meanest or saddest or most violent person to reconsider things and to see a new perspective.

I'm a traditional kind of girl and wasn't sure how an angle could work with a guy and a girl living together, but things really played out in an appropriate way and I enjoyed it a lot. These stories bring smiles to my face, help me to laugh, cause me to shed tears, and engaged me completely from cover to cover. I'm crossing my fingers that we're not done with Fircrest and these fine people yet!

The romance...oh, my! Almost everyone has someone and it's just the most romantic place on earth. I loved it!

Content: clean romance (kissing; guy and girl living together, but not romantically); mild-moderate violence (fighting, talk of abuse, torture); no language; very mild religious elements (mentioned twice that they prayed with no detail of prayers). Clean!
