Planning one amazing party is more complicated than it sounds.

Reece Ryan is known as the best wedding planner in town, but it’s time to take her company to the next level. Getting the contract from a prestigious law firm to plan their upcoming political related events is just the break she needs to prove that she can put together more than just the perfect nuptials. Sure, these events which will receive national coverage might be slightly out of her league, but it’s nothing she can’t handle. Managing the hotshot lawyer the firm has tasked as their liaison for the project is a whole other story.

Griffith Brighton always thought the start of his political career would come from hard work and his brilliant legal mind, not throwing some fancy party. But when the firm’s managing partner asks him to work with the event coordinator to organize a fundraiser dinner for the presidential candidate, he knows it’s the opportunity he’s been waiting for to get in front of some major political players. After years of goal setting and career planning, his future finally seems to be coming together …until two weeks of working with Reece make him reconsider everything he thought to be true about life and falling in love.

My Review: 4 Stars

There is one thing that both Reece and Griffith want--to impress the head of the law firm. Griffith has political aspirations and Reece is trying to shift her wedding planning business into planning events. When they are given two weeks to wow everyone, they set to work, together, and have to set aside their differences to do so. Who would expect sparks to ignite?

I loved the ambition that each character exhibited throughout the story. They each had little ways to dig at each other, trying to get higher on that ladder of success, but more often than not, those jabs turned into endearment. This opposites-attract story really exuded a strong chemistry, which stemmed from dislike, but quickly escalated into something tangible and sweet.

Although the story line only covers a few weeks, plenty of events and emotion are packed in, giving it a realistic feel. I loved watching the walls crumble and the true, inner characters emerge, even through disappointment and challenges.

I have a niece with the exact same name as the main character and that right there made me want to read it, and I'm glad I did. This sweet, clean romance delivers an impactful story that made me self-reflect on what is really important in life and what I do to accomplish my goals.

Content: mild+ romance (there was one scene when I thought it would go too far, but didn't. Just kissing and some light innuendo)

About the Author

Rachel wrote her first novel when she was twelve and entered it into a contest for young author/illustrators. Unfortunately, the judges weren’t impressed with her stick figures. So she dropped the dream of becoming a world famous illustrator and stuck to spinning stories. When she’s not busy working on her latest book, she loves to travel with her family and friends. By far, her favorite destination is the beach, which tends to work its way into most of her stories. Between vacations, you can find her at home in The Woodlands, TX with her wonderful husband, their two adventurous kids and a couple of spirited pets, all of whom share Rachel’s love of the ocean. Well, except the cat and dog. They’re both afraid of water. Find out more about what Rachel has been up to at rachelmageebooks.com.

As the daughter of a well-known senator, Summer Knight is all too familiar with the nasty side of politics. She’s always stayed out of the drama, until an incident involving her fellow Mormons drives her out of her hometown—and out of the Church. What she needs is a change of scene, and sunny California seems like just the place. Enter Benson Hardy. He’s just her type—until she finds out who he is. Not only is Benson a nephew to her father’s political rival, he’s also a devout member of the Church. The last thing Summer wants is to be mixed up in politics—or religion. But Benson challenges her like no one else, asking the tough questions about her inactivity. Though their incompatibility is clear, their connection is undeniable, and soon Summer finds the embers of her faith reigniting. Just as it seems that the pair might be on the road to romance, a series of embarrassing misunderstandings—and the appearance of a handsome charmer determined to sweep Summer off her feet—knock the couple completely off course. As Summer finds herself at a crossroads, she must decide if she’s willing to set her pride aside for a shot at true love.

My Review: 4 Stars
I absolutely love Pride & Prejudice and most re-tellings, and this one is definitely fun and unique. I've read LDS versions before, but never one with a political twist, which is very fitting with a big election coming up. I loved the way these elements fit together to form a very entertaining and fun twist on a favorite classic.
Summer isn't very active in church at the moment and is almost hiding who she is--the daughter of a Democrat senator from Arizona. She just wants to float along on her paddle board and avoid the tough issues that result from politics and religion. Benson is the nephew of the Republican presidential candidate and is active in religion, which causes quite a few stirring debates.
Summer is snarky, but has a sweet and loyal streak. I love the way she and Benson banter, as it's so frustratingly satisfying. Benson is pretty uptight and serious and I enjoy seeing his guard come down. The other characters play similar roles to those in the original, yet they have modern spins to their actions and personalities that really works. Just as with the original, I yearn for the conflicts to disappear and get eager for a good resolution.
This is a great effort and I look forward to more books by this author. She has a great way of weaving a story that is entertaining. This is perfect for those who enjoy P&P and don't mind those two taboo subjects--politics and religion.
Content: religion plays a big role in the story, specific to the LDS church; very mild romance. Clean!
