When Clara Moore learns of her brother's unthinkable scheme—to take her to England and force her into a hasty marriage—she knows she must escape New York. But when she finds out who has accepted the job of taking her to Boston, she almost rethinks her own hurried plan. For the handsome man who comes to her aid is none other than her former love, Ethan Barrik. He left her heart in shambles six years before. Can she trust him a second time?
Ethan Barrik is no stranger to struggle. But tracking the enemy, and war-time spying are nothing compared to the pain of regret. Ready at last to leave his past behind, he accepts one final job for a friend, only to discover the person he's really helping is the woman he still loves. Despite her ire, he knows he must make every attempt to make it right—and hope she will find a way to forgive him and give their love another chance.
My Review: 3.5 Stars
Clara is no stranger to heartbreak, having been left at the alter years earlier, but she will do anything to escape her brother's plan of taking her to England to force her to marry. Ethan is the man who comes to her rescue--yes, the same Ethan who jilted her.
The war has left its mark upon the hearts of many, but that coupled with Ethan's regret make for a heartfelt and tragic story. When Ethan and Clara find themselves in an uncomfortable situation, old feelings and new possibilities arise, which makes for a fun story.
I love it when a couple-meant-to-be has a second shot at true love, but it was a tiny bit aggravating to watch this couple suffer unnecessarily due to their inability to voice their true feelings and reasons. Of course, that would have made for a super short book, so I'll forgive them, since their love story was sweet and satisfying. These Timeless Romance Singles are very enjoyable.
Content: mild romance; very mild violence
