Synopsis
After a devastating accident, Barret Atkins has accepted a quiet, solitary existence. His life is turned upside down, when he finds the badly injured Kansas Smith, left for dead in a case of mistaken identity. As Kansas begins to recover, Barret must face some deep scars of his own. When the couple begin to fall for each other, their lives spin into a revival of past hurts, jealousies, and betrayals, causing Barret to put a halt to their budding relationship.
Barret’s hesitation causes his best friend-turned vicious rival, Duncan Craig, to pursue a friendship with Kansas. Where will this leave Barret? Can they all hold on long enough to escape Kansas’s attacker, and will they ever conquer their own inner demons intent on keeping them apart.

SNIPPET #1

Barret thought of Kansas alone in her hospital bed. She was a sweet, sensitive soul who had money and glamour handed to her, but wanted a devoted husband and family instead. He had to admit that he admired the fact that she divorced her cheating husband, and struck out on her own.

Maybe, if they’d met ten years earlier they could have given each other the contentment of marriage and fulfillment of family they both desired. But, even ten years ago wouldn’t have mattered. At that time, Kansas had been married to Quinn Michaels, who was an up and coming star. The thrill of his rise to fame had probably been invigorating for both of them. And, he was twenty-eight at the time, trying to raise his ten year old sister with very little help from his mother, and trying to finally get his career started.

Enchanted
(Woodcutter Sisters, #1)
by Alethea Kontis
YA Fantasy
Hardcover & ebook, 308 Pages
May 8th 2012 by Harcourt Children's Books

It isn't easy being the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday's only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true.

When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland and a man Sunday's family despises.

The prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction for this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past - and hers?

Hero (Woodcutter Sisters #2)
Hero
(Woodcutter Sisters, #2)
by Alethea Kontis
YA Fantasy
Hardcover & ebook, 304 Pages
October 1st 2013 by Harcourt Books

Rough and tumble Saturday Woodcutter thinks she's the only one of her sisters without any magic, until the day she accidentally conjures an ocean in the backyard. With her sword in tow, Saturday sets sail on a pirate ship, only to find herself kidnapped and whisked off to the top of the world.

Is Saturday powerful enough to kill the mountain witch who holds her captive and save the world from sure destruction? And, as she wonders grumpily, "Did romance have to be part of the adventure?"

As in Enchanted, readers will revel in the fragments of fairy tales that embellish this action-packed story of adventure and, yes, romance.

Valentine's Day Book Blitz Countdown! Day 1--A Change of Plans by Donna Weaver

DAY 1:
A Change of Plans
by Donna Weaver

Book Blurb:

When Lyn sets off on her supposedly uncomplicated and unromantic cruise, she never dreams it will include pirates. All the 25-year-old Colorado high school teacher wants is to forget that her dead fiancé was a cheating scumbag. What she plans is a vacation diversion; what fate provides is Braedon, an intriguing surgeon. She finds herself drawn to him: his gentle humor, his love of music, and even his willingness to let her take him down during morning karate practices. Against the backdrop of the ship’s make-believe world and its temporary friendships, her emotions come alive.

However, fear is an emotion, too. Unaware of the sensitive waters he navigates, Braedon moves to take their relationship beyond friendship—on the very anniversary Lyn came on the cruise to forget. But Lyn’s painful memories are too powerful, and she runs off in a panic.

Things are bad enough when the pair finds themselves on one of the cruise’s snorkeling excursions in American Samoa. However, paradise turns to piracy when their party is kidnapped. Lyn’s fear of a fairytale turns grim. Now she must fight alongside the man she rejected, first for their freedom and then against storms, sharks, and shipwreck.

Friday Favorites: On the Night of the Seventh Moon by Victoria Holt

I discovered Victoria Holt when I was in middle school/high school and absolutely devoured every book of hers that I could get my hands on. I did read a few of her other pen names, but the books by this name were my favorite. I've read most of them at least two or three times. One of my very favorites of hers is On the Night of the Seventh Moon. Here's more about it:

On the Night of the Seventh Moon
On the Night of the Seventh Moon by Victoria Holt
Paperback, 384 pages
Published March 1st 1995 by Fawcett (first published 1972)

Description: According to ancient Black Forest legend, on the Night of the Seventh Moon, Loke, the God of Mischief, is at large in the world. It is a night for festivity and joyful celebration. It is a night for singing and dancing. And it is a night for love.

Helena Trant was enchanted by everything she found in the Black Forest -- especially its legends. But then, on the Night of the Seventh Moon, she started to live one of them, and the enchantment turned suddenly into a terrifying nightmare . . .

About the Author:  Eleanor Hibbert (1 September 1906 – 18 January 1993) was an English author who combined imagination with facts to bring history alive through novels of fiction and romance. She was a prolific writer who published several books a year in different literary genres, each genre under a different pen name: Jean Plaidy for fictionalized history of European royalty; Victoria Holt for gothic romances, and Philippa Carr for a multi-generational family saga. A literary split personality, she also wrote light romances, crime novels, murder mysteries and thrillers under the names Eleanor Burford, Elbur Ford, Kathleen Kellow, Anna Percival, and Ellalice Tate.

Classic Alice Web Series {Spotlight}

CASecondaryPromo

I'm here to tell you a little about a web series called Classic Alice. Not only is the entire production team female, but the show is about strong, classic literature & encourages the audience to think beyond the pages. There's a great message: read more, interpret more, and understand classic art!

The show is about Alice, a girl living her life according to classic literature, and plays on the ‘literary web series’ genre, but also turns it on its head a bit: Alice knows she is living these books. Here's a synopsis:

‘Classic Alice’ is the brainchild of series creator and star, Kate Hackett. It is the story of Alice Rackham, a college student with a huge drive to succeed. When she gets a bad grade on an essay because she isn’t emotionally connecting to material, she decides to take it a step further and live her life according to classic novels. Her friend, Andrew Prichard, uses the opportunity to make a vlog-style documentary about the process, and together they create ‘Classic Alice’.
